Behind the Image: The Flow of Creative Leadership

At AUTHORITY by AVANTGARDE, a brand marketing studio shaping the region’s luxury and lifestyle landscape, Kubi Springer, Head of AUTHORITY, and Sophia Bilz, Creative Director, share a common language of vision, trust, and storytelling. Following their latest campaign and marketing direction for Dubai Mall’s Festival of Fashion, they sit down to discuss the power of imagery, the flow of collaboration, and the quiet strength of female-led creativity behind campaigns that truly speak to their audience.
Sophia: Kubi, AUTHORITY has quickly built a reputation for shaping how luxury and lifestyle brands connect with audiences across the region. What do you want the studio to stand for especially when leading big campaigns like the Dubai Mall Festival of Fashion?
Kubi: At AUTHORITY, we believe images don’t just sell they speak. They reflect identity, culture, and connection. When we take on a project like this, it’s never just about marketing; it’s about crafting a visual language that carries meaning. Our mission has always been to tell luxury stories that feel human, stories that linger because they feel true. Speaking of that what was your creative approach to translating that vision into the entire creative campaign and visual identity?
Sophia: In fashion, everything begins with a story. Sometimes it unfolds across an entire campaign, other times, it lives quietly inside a single frame. For the Dubai Mall Festival of Fashion, our goal was exactly that: to create one striking visual language that encapsulates the rhythm, confidence, and emotion of Dubai’s fashion scene.

Where Creativity Comes to Life
Kubi: At AUTHORITY, we believe images don’t just sell they speak.
Kubi: You mentioned to me before how important trust was in the creative process. How does that dynamic show up between us and across the team?
Sophia: Working with a team that believes in the vision changes everything. As Creative Director, I was trusted to translate that ethos into a key visual that didn’t just show fashion, but emotion. That trust came from your leadership, Kubi, from a style rooted in empowerment. You create space for creativity to unfold, and that’s where true storytelling happens. How do you define that kind of leadership yourself?
Kubi: Empowerment has always been at the heart of AUTHORITY. Leadership isn’t about directing every move; it’s about setting the tone: giving talented people permission to explore, to take risks, to own their ideas. When I see you and the team step into your creative flow, it reflects what I want this agency to stand for: trust, collaboration, and feminine leadership that uplifts rather than dictates.
Tell me about what it felt like on set during the shoot. How did that flow come to life?
Sophia: We didn’t over-script it. Instead, I focused on building the right creative conditions, a clear strategic direction, shared vision, and a space where everyone could contribute at their best. When the team is aligned, there’s a natural rhythm that emerges on set: photographer, stylist, talent, all moving with purpose. My responsibility as a creative director is to shape that environment and lead the energy, while still allowing room for instinct and collaboration. The strongest ideas happen when people feel empowered and understood. How do you see that connection between creative leadership and team synergy?

The Story Behind the Frame
Kubi: For me, creative leadership isn’t about hierarchy, it’s about harmony. When people feel trusted, they naturally bring their best work forward. I’ve seen it time and again, when you empower your team, you don’t just get great results, you get authenticity. And that authenticity shows up in the work: in the tone, in the detail, in the emotional truth of an image. The final visual for this campaign really captured something powerful. What was the story you wanted that one frame to tell?
Sophia: Our challenge was to capture a story through one image, one frame that was the foundation to the entire campaign, which could speak for an entire movement. We wanted the viewer not just to admire it, but to see themselves in it. To feel part of it. That’s what makes visual storytelling powerful: when it empowers the audience to identify, not imitate.
How do you see that linking back to your definition of modern luxury?
Kubi: For us, modern luxury isn’t about exclusivity, it’s about connection. True luxury makes you pause. It invites reflection. It communicates something meaningful without shouting. In a world that moves fast, the quiet power of a single image, one crafted with care and emotion, feels more valuable than ever.
What did this campaign remind you of as a creative?
Sophia: That fashion imagery, at its best, still has the power to make people feel. That feeling doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from purpose, and that purpose starts with leadership that encourages you to create freely.
And for you, what did seeing the final campaign mean on a personal level?
Kubi: Seeing you lead the creative direction of this campaign was a proud moment for me. Not just as Head of AUTHORITY, but as a woman in this industry. It represents what we’re building here: a place where women can lead, collaborate, and express their vision unapologetically. Because when women are given the space to create, the results speak for themselves.
Sophia: In the end, the power of a campaign lies not only in how it looks, but in how it’s made. In the trust behind it, the collaboration within it, and the emotion it carries forward.
Kubi: Yes. And that’s the story we’re telling at AUTHORITY: one of creativity, connection, and empowerment. One frame at a time.
